Morning routine sneak peak

I follow some women on Instagram that post things about their morning routine, and I don’t know why but I find this so oddly satisfying! There is something so revealing about an intimate, behind the scenes look at someone else’s everyday life. There are usually no thrills, but it’s as if you’re stealing a glance into someone’s private moments. A porky’s peep hole if you will, except, less nudity.

Grab your popcorn and get comfortable, here is the Hollywood premier of my morning routine.

I usually wake up around 7 am, but this is always evolving with Gigi’s sleep schedule. Maybe the better way to phrase this is ‘lately she lets me sleep until 7 am.’ I actually love waking up early and being productive, I would definitely say I’m more of an early bird than a night owl. As a newish mom the only time I get to myself is after Gigi goes to bed, which is getting later and later, which in turn is sending me to bed later and making it more challenging to wake up early.

I wake up and immediately pee and then brush my teeth. I cannot function for even 2 minutes in the morning without brushing my teeth. I don’t know why, but it’s a real thing for me. After I finish with my teeth I put on my robe and go get my coffee. My coffee is mixed with lactaid milk and a splash of vanilla flavor almond milk creamer… just a splash though. Gigi is with me, because lately she wakes up in the middle of the night and comes in our bed. Not healthy, but who the fuck cares, I love the cuddles.

My coffee is ALWAYS readied the night before with the timer. If I have to make coffee first thing in the morning I couldn’t function, it’s the life blood of my ability to function. Now I get Gigi her yogurt, after she weaned from the breast she never liked regular milk, so she gets her fats and vitamin D from whole milk Swedish yogurt – this very specific expensive kind from whole foods. Such a bougie baby. We are at a stage where she needs to make lots of choices so she goes to her lower level cupboard and will pick out her cup. From there we go to the couch and snuggle for a bit while she watches a show on Netflix or Prime. Chris is up too, much of the routine is done in tandem – especially because our two dogs start becoming demanding as well. Jeter does not like to get out of bed until as late as possible, but Taco is up, at the door and begging to eat sometimes before seven. We feed the dogs, and now give Jeter insulin, and go to get ready.

By now it’s about 7:15-7:30 and my mom is downstairs. She takes the lead with Gigi and I take a shower. I wash my hair every other day and use Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner. I’m always trying new shower gels but my go to face wash is Cetaphil. It’s boring AF and has zero smell but it WORKS. My face has been using this for at least a decade. I like to mix in other washes, masks, and scrubs but Cetaphil is the staple. I’m constantly switching up my hair products (mousse, detangler, leave in conditioner, primer, etc. I’ll do a separate blog post on these). I like to use a toner (Kiehls, the green one) and then lather on Cetaphil facial cream. This is my old faithful, not greasy and thick enough to feel perfectly moisturized and not sticky. Again I like to mix in new stuff, but I will never be without this product in my drawer. If I washed my hair I dry it with a dyson and if not I put a splash of curl with my hot tools hot pink iron. I put on my pearl earrings, wedding rings, and a splash of Chanel No. 5. I’ve been working from home for 2 years (plus you know, the quarantine) so I don’t wear much make up anymore. I always dress in some kind of yoga pant or jogger and a comfy top. Also socks or slippers, NEVER barefoot, there are too many bugs in Texas. And always, make the bed.

I refill my coffee and make sure my hot pink hyrdoflask is filled to the top with cold water and I grab a think thin peanut butter (the creamy one) protein bar and banana. When I get to my office (commute is lovely, like 30 seconds without traffic) and before I do anything I do 10 minutes of meditation with my headspace app. Sometimes I do some stretching or yoga but I’m not as consistent with that as I’d like. I usually have at least one window open in my office for fresh air and then I move over to my desk to journal. I write out my ‘vibe’ of the day. I guess this is my intention of how I want to feel for the day, and I try to remember it and even choose my music based on this vibe. I then write out 5 very specific things that I am grateful for and one thing to think about. Sometimes it is something I’m struggling with, pondering, etc.

Now I’m ready to crush the day.
